Description – Download Plans to Make or build a marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel, metalophone

If any of these apply to you, read more …..

Have you ever looked at marimbas or xylophones in the music stores and wondered …

“… how on earth can these instruments cost so much?”

because after all … they are just wooden boards on a frame with resonance pipes to amplify the sound.

Even schools prefer to spend it elsewhere …

That’s why I created this solution for you …

Let me introduce you first.

My name is Jim McCarthy and I’ve been a drummer for over 20 years.

I’ve always had a passion for building things and over the years I’ve had a lot to do with building and designing marimbas, especially for other people. I would never consider myself a professional in woodworking or a craft – I was always a musician first.

and that means if I can build these projects … you can do it easily too. You don’t have to design, think, work hard, or make mistakes – I’ve already done all of these for you!

By the time I got my Masters, I really got into acoustics and learned all about how marimbas were built – I even did some massive world record bass marimbas to pursue my hobby …

But these days my goals are much more practical … I design instruments specifically for people like you. It started years ago when I was building some instruments to aid my wife in her school music program. You may have seen the Project 1 box resonance xylophone or the Project 2 mini marimba that people all over the world are already building to save money for their schools and to be interesting for children to play and enjoy.

I have also built many other instruments during my time, from small xylophones to extremely large bass marimbas. What I have done is refine my building processes in step-by-step instructions for five instruments: the simple glockenspiel, the box xylophone, the mini marimba with two octaves, the marimba with three octaves, the vibraphone with three Octaves and, more recently, the Pro Five Octave Concerto Marimba

The great thing about these projects is that they will work for you no matter what wood you have available – or in the case of the vibraphone and glockenspiel, they work very well with standard metal material that is inexpensive and easy to source in most parts of the world.

Concert-quality marimbas are usually made from Honduran rosewood or African padauk. The better the wood, the better the instrument you can make. However, you can make these instruments from almost any hardwood (e.g. durian or meranti).

It depends on what instruments you build and where you live. However, all of these instruments are designed using only inexpensive materials available at an average hardware store.

Here is a rough guide to the cost of materials for the various instruments.

And of course, if you want to make a better quality instrument, you can invest in a better quality wood like rosewood. This will cost you a few hundred dollars but is still a lot less than buying a real concert instrument.

YES! All plans include both imperial (feet and inches) and metric (millimeters) measurements.

Absolutely not! I am not a carpenter – I am a musician. Most of the skills required are fairly simple woodwork – measuring, cutting, and sanding.

Even if you’ve never picked up a hammer or saw in your life, I am confident that these plans will provide you with a working tool. Of course, over the course of my time I’ve received some pointers on designing and building instruments, but I’ve included all of the important construction tips in the package for you.

Absolutely not! All the tools you will need are off-the-shelf household tools.

Plus a few other bits and pieces that you would normally find in the garage!

BUT … if you don’t have access to one, don’t worry – I’ve included a full set of sine waves (crisp and clean tones) that you can use to tune the notes by ear. If you have a musical ear it is really easy to do that way.

The short answer: it certainly can do!

Obviously, if you save extra money by using a cheaper wood for the bars, you can’t expect them to sound like any of the traditional woods used for marimbas. And of course, the final sound also depends on the care and precision with which you create and tune your bars. BUT … especially with the P524 or PV guide, which is designed for fully professional instruments – ALL the information you need to make your marimba or vibraphone sound exactly like a commercial one can be found in your building instructions.

The fact is, it makes little difference!

Commercial instrument makers often TALK about the sounds of different resonator materials – they want their instruments to look more special – BUT have you ever seen someone publish an actual audio comparison?

and think about it …… The job of the resonator is to amplify the sound – and it does so by containing a column of air that is the right size to vibrate when sound waves enter it from the bar .

So … does the column of air really care what it contains? or even know? Remember that the column of air vibrates. Not the container. So what it is made of makes little difference!

and I’ve heard people argue that certain materials are a little harder and reflect sound better than others – well, that’s true … but here’s the thing …

Additional hard metals etc. only make a difference at very high frequencies – the frequencies are well above the range of the vibraphone. Only the upper harmonics of the vibraphone are in this frequency range – and guess what … these upper harmonics are actually tuned so that they DO NOT vibrate in the tubes!

The plans included for this instrument use PVC tubing for the resonators because:

And you can buy PVC pipes at just about any hardware store, as they are typically used for drainage pipes in just about every home! Of course – if you really want to use different materials for your resonators, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from doing so. The building instructions still tell you how to get the result you want.

Absolutely not! You have instant access to the e-books and videos via download, so you can get started right away. The plans are printed out in Adobe Acrobat Reader (which almost every computer has already installed).

Of course you see the value in getting all of these instrument making bluprints so I have a special offer for you …

The Total Building package includes:

The Mallet Making E-Book Guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to make your own mallets for racket percussion instruments.

You have full access to:

It took me almost ten years to build the skills to tune bars and design instruments that worked, and this prototype is now actually my personal concert instrument. That’s how I know these plans work.

Of course, I cannot build the instrument for you, and your success will be determined by a little of your own efforts.

However, if you feel that my plans are flawed and not working for you, simply contact clickbank within 56 days for a full refund of the purchase price of these building instructions – with no questions asked. In fact, I insist! I don’t want your money if you can’t use it successfully to make your own instruments.

And remember, you don’t even have to do it yourself … … you can easily give the plans to an avid woodworker to carry out as a project, or you can even use them as a school class project!

So … you won’t regret it, and this is going to be an investment that could save you thousands of dollars!

See you on the next page!

PS There are no gimmicks here – just real information that you won’t find anywhere else!

PPS This is definitely for you if you want a full range of professional racket instruments and still have a budget to spare!

The information products available on makeamarimba.com and buildavibraphone.com are intended to provide the user with all the information necessary to build the relevant instruments to the same level and finish as the original prototypes depicted on the websites. The final results of the end user will, of course, depend in part on their own skills and efforts. Some of the skills and techniques described in the building instructions may require some practice from the end user before reaching a high level of proficiency. This is an expected part of the building process. However, once these capabilities are sufficiently achieved, the end user should, with due diligence, be able to build an instrument at a much lower cost than any commercially equivalent model.
